Hi!
Welcome to another week of TikTokTrends!
This week I will be mainly talking about the #Inauguration and TikTok’s related to it like the #InaugurationOutfits and #BernieSanders.
Let's start!
#Inauguration
Biden was finally inaugurated this week. The celebrations continued all day, as the national guard was protecting the capitol, and a field of nearly 200,000 flags were the only ones who were able to watch it live. Performances from Katy Parry, Lady Gaga, JLo, John Legend, and Garth Brooks were seen, and the young poet Amanda Gorman read her own powerful poem called "The Hill We Climb."
The video above shows Biden being sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Many of the comments can be seen congratulating Biden and expressing their joy. The video was one of the numerous videos posted by content creators online, showing critical moments of the inauguration.
The inauguration can be seen being shared mainly by left-leaning, democratic content creators. Some dancing in joy, others commenting on the historic inauguration. Many posted Gorman's poem, while others posted videos of their favorite artists performing. Right-leaning content creators with a large audience mostly skipped creating a video about the inauguration.
A subject scrutinized by the right was the view counts of the inauguration on social media platforms. Some content creators were seen focusing on the views that the inauguration videos got, citing voter fraud. Content creators used images of the livestreams taken at unknown times, which makes it irrelevant; if the screenshot were taken the moment the live stream had started, the viewership obviously would not be as much.
One of the videos showcased on TikTok is from C-Span and now has over 2.9 million views. Additionally, using view counts and social media engagement as proof of voter fraud could have only happened after a President who used social media as a weapon.
Of course, TikTok was not free of conspiracies about the ceremony. Videos explaining that the inauguration took place at 11:48, which is 12 minutes before noon, the time the Constitution's 20th amendment says that the new President is determined. The Washington Post reached out to constitutional experts who said that:
-The 20th Amendment states that the "terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January." George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley said it's not taking the oath that results in an incoming president taking office. "The oath is required, but it is not the act that makes Biden the next president," –
Other conspiracies included questioning why the trees were so green on January 20th when Trump departed the White House and Barron Trump being forgotten in the White House.
TikTok viewers were also interested in what Washington DC was looking like during the inauguration. Videos of the surrounding areas were posted by journalists and residence that were able to go close to the fence that was put up around the capitol building. Boarded up store-fronts can be seen in these videos, which is something we have all gotten used to by now.
#InaugurationOutfit
The outfits of the inauguration were something to see. Everyone was at the top of their game, and TikTok users loved it!
Many videos were posted like this one, showcasing the colors chosen by the attendees and their walks towards the ceremony. The video above was posted by Vicki Chan and has gotten over 2.8 million views on TikTok. Chan talks about the importance of the colors chosen during the ceremony, explaining that the purple tone symbolizes the unity between the Red, republican and Blue, democratic parties.
Others were more involved in the attendees than they were in the outfits. Content creators were seen admiring Robert Biden, commenting on his slick umbrella catch during the ceremony. Some can be seen admiring Ella Emhoff's outfit and her amazing facial expression while listening to Mike Pence.
Outfits were not the only clothing apparel that was talked about. Careful sneaker fans were able to catch Harris' nephew-in-law and Masie Biden wearing Air Jordan's at the ceremony.
Melania Trump was also analyzed. Content creators showed Mrs. Trump walking away from the White House happier than ever before.
#BernieSanders
Biden may have won the election, but Bernie Sanders definitely stole the attention! On social media, images, videos, MeMe's, and everything in between went viral with Sanders's mittens and jacket as the main attraction. The jacket is now selling out! If you don't know what I'm talking about, just take a look:
The video was posted by Bernie Sanders, his campaign's official account, that is not run by Sanders himself. The video is a joke within a joke, the reporter Gayle King asks sanders if he wants to talk about his attire, the footage is then cut and makes it seem like Sanders answered with "$2000 per adult, that is what the senate has got to do, that is what the American people want us to do." Jokingly expressing that, this is all Bernie talks about.
This, of course, did not happen; Sanders was happy to answer the question about his attire, saying that "In Vermont, we know something about the cold." Here is the full video of that interaction.
The comedy does not end here; there are endless images, videos, and compilations with sanders sitting in unusual places around the world. If you have a couple of minutes, I would really advise you to just look through these images compiled on Twitter; some are very funny!
In Other News:
#JusticeforClaudia! Kellyanne Conway has posted topless pictures of her 16-year-old daughter on her personal Twitter account. This morning Twitter and TikTok were shaken by this news. Claudia went live on TikTok soon after her image began circulating on Twitter. The picture was quickly removed from Kellyanne's Twitter account; she has yet to comment on the situation. Claudia explains that her mother could have taken the picture from her phone when she took it from her. On her live stream, Claudia says that her mother should go to jail for this. Another video shared on Twitter shows a police officer at the Conway's household, hanging up a facetime call that was being recorded, showing the yelling going on at the house.
This is not the first time we have seen issues in the Conway household. Claudia has frequently talked about her mother's abusive behavior and recorded her mother yelling and cursing at her in the past.
The images posted on Kellyanne's Twitter account are still too recent to know the full details. Kellyanne has yet to respond on Twitter or to journalists about the allegations. However, what is clear is the Claudia Conway's mental health will suffer. She has already commented on TikTok, expressing some form of suicidal thoughts, and has long been in a turbulent relationship with her mother. I will be following this story and will post updates on my Twitter page!
Joe Biden is the 45th President. Hank Green recently posted a video on TikTok, explaining how Biden is actually the 45th President. 44 separate individuals were President before Biden, so Biden is effectively the 45th president of the United States. The reason being, Grover Cleveland served twice, first as the 22nd and later as the 24th president. Green argues that one person cannot be two presidents. Joking that all the Trump supporters wearing the number 45 on their hats and t-shirts actually supported Biden!
This is not the first time this debate has been brought up. Back in 2009, then-President Obama fired up the debate stating that he is the 44th president during his inauguration speech. It seems that, ultimately, what is counted is the presidency, not the President's themselves.
That is all I have for this week! Let me know what you think by hitting reply to this email or sending me a DM through Twitter!
Thank you for reading; I hope to see you next week!
